In summer 2016 in the Darmstadt Summer Academy I had the opportunity to watch a lesson of Brian Ferneyhough. I consider myself even luckier, as, as an exception, Mr. Ferneyhough during these two hours answered some questions about himself and the way he sees life. One of his quotes still stuck in my mind is this: we should abandon nostalgia. Some months later, studying his Bone Alphabet, these words came clear to my head. This piece leaves no time for nostalgic moments to the interpreter and the audience, as the emotions change rapidly filtered by complexity.
